The 2018 Affiliate Marketing Survey results are in!

Thank you to the 400+ of you that filled in.

There are some really interesting insights…

? INSIGHTS ON AFFILIATES


1️⃣
The biggest money makers for affiliates in the past 12 months have been #1. ECOMMERCE. #2 LEAD GENERATION. #3 HEALTH & BEAUTY. Ecommerce came out a whooping 48%.

SWEEPSTAKES and MOBILE CONTENT were #4 & #5 but were way behind the first 3 in terms of votes.


2️⃣
The past 12 months of business compared to previous years turned out pretty average for affiliates. Votes in #1 “AVERAGE” #2 “BELOW AVERAGE.


3️⃣
The majority of affiliates voted that they are “CONFIDENT” about the next 12 months of business. The majority for anyone currently in the ecommerce or lead generation space was “VERY CONFIDENT”.

1️⃣
The biggest money makers for affiliate managers in the past 12 months have been #1. HEALTH & BEAUTY (46%) #2. LEAD GENERATION. #3 SWEEPSTAKES.


2️⃣
The past 12 months of business compared to previous years also turned out pretty average for affiliates managers. Votes in #1 “AVERAGE” #2 “BELOW AVERAGE. This was exactly the same as affiliates.

The majority of affiliates manager voted that they are “CONFIDENT” about the next 12 months of business.

INSIGHTS ON AFFILIATE NETWORK OWNERS


1️⃣ The biggest money makers for affiliate network owners in the past 12 months have been #1. LEAD GENERATION (42%) #2. MOBILE CONTENT #3. CREDIT CARD SUBMITS.


2️⃣
The past 12 months of business compared to previous years weren’t so good for affiliates network owners. Votes in #1 “BELOW AVERAGE” (by majority vote) #2 AVERAGE.


3️⃣
The majority of affiliate network owners voted that they are “UNSURE” about the next 12 months of business.


? INSIGHTS ON ADVERTISERS


1️⃣
The biggest money makers for advertisers in the past 12 months have been #1. ECOMMERCE (35%) #2 MOBILE CONTENT #3 HEALTH & BEAUTY.


2️⃣
The past 12 months of business compared to previous years were positive for advertisers. Votes in #1 “ABOVE AVERAGE” #2 “AVERAGE.


3️⃣
The majority of advertisers voted that they are “VERY CONFIDENT” about the next 12 months of business.

KEY TAKEAWAYS

?Lead Generation, Ecommerce and Health & Beauty offers now dominate the space. 2/3 of those aren’t exactly “affiliate” offers. The industry is changing. More than ever before “affiliates” are creating businesses instead of purely arbitrage operations.

Advertisers seem like they have the best seat in the house. With that being said it is very likely that a lot of advertisers are ex-successful affiliates who have evolved their businesses to the next level.

Affiliate networks have taken a hit due to the above. It doesn’t look like things are going to get any easier…unless there is some serious innovation and/or a true USP. It’s pretty obvious which networks are leading the way and which ones are becoming very quiet.

I’m very curious to see what is next for fundamental affiliate marketing.

What will be the next type of offers that will blow up?

Maybe there will be a new traffic type that will murder with old offers?

Will there be something new?

Or is this how the dust will settle, and more people will start building businesses outside the fundamental affiliate marketing space?

Adapt or die.

P.S. One thing to keep in mind when reading the survey results. Firstly, it’s limited to mates of Loz Green. Secondly, it’s unlikely it will account for people who failed or left the industry within the past 12 months. Thirdly, it’s limited to people who fill out surveys (the best kind obviously).
